Please read Kione's story and give what you can.
Kione was diagnosed on Nov.19,2017 with Aml Leukemia at the age of 6. Aml is the most aggressive form of leukemia with only a 27% 5 year survival rate, and even lower with relapse. Kione was a normal, very active kid attending 1st grade at David Reese in Sacramento,CA, until that day we received the horrible news that he had the worst type of leukemia that anyone could have. After diagnose he started very intense chemotherapy for two weeks, during that time he developed pneumonia, hypertension and suffered seizures, but by the grace of God he pulled through and was remission in Dec,2017 just three weeks after being Diagnosed.
Kione was then released from the hospital while he was gearing up for a bone marrow transplant because of the type of Leukemia he has, the transplant was mandatory. Kione had his transplant Feb, 2018 everything went good he was in the hospital until May, 2018 recovering from the transplant, he was then released again, but this time he was considered to be fully cured after the transplant. Kione was doing great he started back to school, We did check ups and biopsies every few weeks and everything was going great. Until mid August 2018 we received a call that the biopsy showed leukemia cells and the leukemia was back, which meant Kione relapsed. We knew that it was going to be a hard fight this time around, so I had to quit my new job that i was only on three weeks, and we packed up and headed back to UCSF Children's Hospital in San Francisco, where we would make our home for the next 10 months as Kione underwent six different chemo-therapies which none of them worked. In May 2019 we were told that there no other options and they was ready to discharge us to start palliative care at home.
Luckily St Jude had clinical trials that were not available here at UCSF, so they sent for our entire family to come to Memphis ,TN to try the two trials they had available there. Unfortunately neither worked for Kione, and the bone marrow biopsy results came back as 87% Leukemia. So out of options again we called his doctor in San Francisco with the results, and luckily he had a new trial he felt could work, so we all jumped back on a plane to California in June, 2019. Kione started the chemo and was looking and feeling great so we all, including the doctors were expecting great results, but sadly it didn't work. Kione was released from UCSF Hospital on palliative care, to the Family House which is family housing for families getting treatment at UCSF located on the same street.Kione is still fighting hard and were just praying some new trials open up real soon and just praying everyday and not losing faith.
We are grateful for any contribution you can make and encourage you to share Kione’s story with others. Thank you for your love, faith, and generosity.
