***!! Please be advised, there are graphic pictures of our wounds at the end of the paragraph !!***
My name is Kinley.
On Friday, April 21, 2023, I was on a walk in my neighborhood with my dog, Shiloh, and my mom’s dog Ella. At 8:20 pm while on our walk, we were attacked by a loose German Shepherd in the neighborhood. The dog had on no collar and was not restrained in any fashion and rushed at us ready to kill my dogs. Ella ran around me on my right side and Shiloh ran around me on my left, and I got tangled in the leash. The German shepherd went straight to Shiloh and started attacking and shaking her in her jaws, trying to kill her. Ella escaped her harness and took off running, and that was the last time I ever saw her.
I was bitten by the German shepherd while trying to save Shilohs life, and the owner came down and was able to separate his dog from mine.
Shiloh was rushed to the emergency room for life saving surgery and I was taken to the emergency room. We found out that night Ella was hit by a car in the neighborhood and passed away.
The owner’s homeowner insurance will only cover $1,000 of emergency vet bills because dogs are only considered property.
We have had to get Ella cremated and so far, we have taken Shiloh to the emergency room three times now for her injuries with more appointments to come. Not only are we saddled with the burden of not only these traumatic memories and horrific loss, but the cost of this unfortunate and extremely unnecessary attack.
Please, anything helps, even if it’s just sharing our story.
