King's Surgery Fund (In Memory of Celso Silva)

**UPDATE** King's surgery date has been scheduled with MSPCA-Angell for August 22, 2022! We received an estimate from Angell for $5200 for King's surgery and $2500 for the following rehabilitation that he will need. We are hoping to raise enough funds to fully cover the cost of this care. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We appreciate you so much!

In Memory of Celso Silva

This fund is set up in honor of former JM team member, Celso Silva, who passed away recently and generously named JM Pet Resort as a beneficiary. Celso was a bright soul, a dog lover, and a beloved member of the JM family. For anyone who would like to honor Celso's memory by donating to King's care, we will carry forward Celso's legacy by supporting King with the medical care he needs to live the best life possible with his JM family.

King's Story

King arrived to us as a patient at JM Pet Vet Clinic in 2017. After struggling to identify and treat King's chronic medical issues, his owners were unfortunately facing the difficult decision to euthanize this beautiful boy. King was struggling, severely balding, and had lost so much weight that he had gone from being a 100lb adult German Shepherd to a mere 65lbs. His family couldn't afford additional diagnostic testing for King's ailments, and they faced a heartbreaking decision for King's quality of life.

When Dr. Page and Jeni met King, he stole their hearts. They were captivated by his stunning personality, and couldn't bear to give up on this boy without doing everything in their power to help. JM Pet Resort & JM Pet Vet Clinic offered for King's family to relinquish him to us, so we could use our resources to try to give this sweet dog his best chance at a healthy life. In October of 2017, King moved into his new home at JM Pet Resort.

With further testing, we discovered that King had painful anal fissures and an auto-immune disorder that was causing his chronic health issues. King had surgery to treat the anal fissures, and once we got him onto the right medications for his disorder, we saw this boy begin to blossom.

We initially tried to adopt King out to a new home - but we knew that he would require expensive medication and medical attention for the rest of his life, making it hard to find someone who could financially keep up with the care King needs. So King became a permanent JM resident, and he quickly secured a spot in the hearts of every team member in the JM family. Here at JM Pet Resort & JM Pet Vet Clinic, he is everyone's dog. For the past 5 years, we've all worked together to care for King as our own fur-baby.

Now, our wonderful boy King is in need of cruciate ligament surgery. King has a torn ligament in his knee, which requires surgery and extensive rehabilitation to stabilize his knee joint. The procedure will cost around $5,000. We have set up a GoFundMe for King to collect the funds needed for his surgery.
