On January 6, John and his wife Tenneh were getting into their car at their apartment complex in King of Prussia to take their seven-year-old daughter, who has autism, to school. As they were leaving, two masked ICE agents stopped them and took John into custody.
John was a lawyer in Cameroon. He came to the United States on a visa and is unable to return due to ongoing civil unrest and violence in his home country. He has a pending asylum case with immigration and holds a valid legal work permit.
John and Tenneh were legally married in July and have been saving for a wedding celebration. Tenneh is a United States citizen. John is a kind and gentle man who immediately stepped into the role of primary caregiver for Tenneh’s daughter, who has special needs. He works nights in home health care and supplements his income with Instacart. During the day, he cares for their daughter while Tenneh works her retail job.
Without warning, their family has been torn apart. Tenneh and John are now facing thousands of dollars in legal fees, have lost John’s income, and must urgently secure childcare so Tenneh can continue working.
If you are able to donate, it will help with the legal fees that will hopefully bring John home and help Tenneh be able to survive the financial crisis she is facing.
