Thank you for learning about my possible volunteer adventure in South Africa!

My name is Kinetica Peer, I live near Orlando Florida, USA, and I am trying to go on a 10-week volunteer expedition for my senior year trip.

The trip is not a vacation, but a working volunteering adventure that requires me to sleep in tents and temporary structures the entire time. I will be with a group of others my age (17-24), from around the world, helping rural villages near Kruger National Park in South Africa.

The organization that is making this possible is Raleigh International. I have already applied, gone through the screening, been accepted, and paid my deposit (thanks mom and dad!). My goal is now to have enough money to pay for the trip.

I have several jobs lined up between now and when the trip must be paid for (November 2023). I will be babysitting, teaching martial arts, dog sitting, sewing, and working as a summer camp counselor. However, I may not have enough money to pay for the whole trip.

The trip will cost about $8000. The flights cost about $2250 and food, transportation, local support team, shelter sites, etc. handled through Raleigh International for all 10 weeks costs another $5700. I have most of the items on the packing list, but I do still need to get several things.

If you can help me do this once in a life-time experience, I would be very grateful. In exchange, I will share with you the story of my Africa adventure as it happens and as connectivity allows. I plan to share photos, experiences, and other stuff from the field. I have very little idea of what I will face, and that is a part of this challenge.

This trip will force me out of my comfort zone and help me discover more of my inner strength. I have had a wonderful childhood with the good fortune of being homeschooled. However, I need to go into the world on my own and this trip is a big first step for me.

These 10 weeks will be the first time I will ever have been away from my family for so long, and also in a foreign country all by myself. This trip is as much about helping others as it is about learning to rely on myself.
