Kinder In Colour - Support Countryside Access!

Kinder in Colour fundraiser

On 24th April, we will gather together as Black People and People of Colour to walk, dance, sing and take up space on Kinder Scout. We will highlight that this green and pleasant land belongs to us too, and that we have the same right to play, heal and connect with the countryside as anyone.

The facts:

We are motivated by anti-racism and the right of everyone to access land. Despite making up 13% of the UK population, Black People and People of Colour (BPOC) make up only 1% of visitors to national parks. Just 39% of people from BPOC backgrounds live within a five-minute walk to green spaces compared to 58% of white people (Thomas Reuters Foundation).

Journalist Jay Rayner created a race map which showed people from BPOC communities are much more likely to be the victim of racist assault in rural areas than in cities (CPRE). BPOC are as deserving to feel safe and comfortable in forests, moors and mountains as white people.

We are hoping to create one of the largest countryside gatherings of people of colour in English history – but we need your help. We are hoping to raise funds to top up our small grant capacity for event infrastructure on the day. Additionally, the expense of travel is one of the many barriers people have to overcome to access the countryside, which this crowdfunder will help support for 24th April.

If you want to help fund Kinder in Colour, we would hugely welcome your contribution to this crowdfunder, no matter how big or small. Any extra proceeds not used for the 24th April event will be given to charities working on access to the outdoors for Black People and People of Colour.

Please share and encourage friends and family to donate too!

This event is led by BPOC groups and centres their needs and contributions. Non-BPOC allies are welcome to attend in solidarity.

We look forward to gathering at Kinder Scout, thank you so much for your contribution!
