KIND OF BLUE - Progressive Documentary For 2020

THE SETUP: KIND OF BLUE is a slice-of-life look at a cross section of progressive Texans who are standing up and fighting against bigotry. This film has been entirely self-financed — our way of engaging with our democracy, using our creative voices, and amplifying the causes of people we believe in. Recently we started this fundraiser to help us with final stages of post-production — to make sure we get the story out in time for 2020.

THE WHY:  We see KIND OF BLUE  becoming a powerful tool to inspire progressive change all across the nation. Our documentary  weaves together the stories of a diverse group of Texans — ranchers, politicians, law enforcement officers, activists, journalists, business owners, religious leaders, artists, and many more. These are people defending human rights, defying land seizures for a wall, protecting the environment, and campaigning for social justice.

WHO WE ARE: As filmmakers, we decided to use our skills to amplify voices and stories of people on the front lines of Progressive causes in Texas who are fighting to make change. We have done this all with a close-knit team of collaborators - Richard Linklater, Eric Schlosser, and countless others who have stepped forward to help us shoot and edit, find interviews, and open up doors to interesting places and events over the course of the past year in Texas.

THE PLAN:  We are working hard to get the film as much visibility as possible - a major festival release in 2020, then distributing it widely on a major platform, as well as a cross-country screening campaign to different colleges and community centers. Put simply: our goal it to reach as many people as possible in 2020, inspiring them to vote, volunteer, and participate in our democracy.

THE POST-PRODUCTION:  With the film shot already, we have been working at Rio Bravo Post in El Paso, Texas. Our editor Zach Passero is a lifelong resident of El Paso and brings over two decades of experience as an independent filmmaker and storyteller to the project.

THE ASK:  To date, we have completely financed the production of KIND OF BLUE ourselves, and now we need some help with our post-production expenses. We will be using the funding we raise from this campaign for post-production to ensure that we finish the film in time for an effective release - before next year's election cycle!
