Kim's Implant Removal and Recovery Costs

This is my beautiful sister, Kim. More than 20 years ago, she got the terrible news that she had breast cancer. Her treatment included a double mastectomy and silicone breast implants to replace the body parts the disease took from her. Since then, she has had a major surgery every year due to the toxic effect the implants have had on her body. There is a medical term for this toxicity: Breast Implant Illness (BII). Please read about BII using the link below:

The symptoms have been debilitating for Kim, yet she continues to work cleaning homes 10+ hours a day, 6 days a week. Kim has consulted and been treated by a variety of doctors (pain specialists, internists, gastroenterologists and neurologists) all without physical relief, and often with the implication that these symptoms are all in her head. Kim has been close to giving up hope for any improvement and only has the promise of worsening symptoms as the days, weeks and months pass. She is in so much pain that working and general daily activities have become agonizing.

Recently Kim heard about Dr. Khan and Executive Plastic Surgery in Novi, Michigan. Dr. Khan is the first doctor who ever confirmed that all of the symptoms Kim is living with are related to the implants. (Check out the link below for more information about breast implant removal)

Unfortunately, since BII is not recognized by the AMA (American Medical Association) as a verifiable condition, insurance does not consider Explant Capsulectomy (breast implant removal) medically necessary and will not pay for the $7,000.00 procedure and related charges (anesthesiology, radiology, pathology, etc). Since there is no insurance to be billed, the provider requires payment before the procedure can be performed.

It would take Kim years to be able to save this amount of money and her health cannot wait that long. We are asking for help in funding the medical and travel expenses (hotel for Kim and caregiver while she is monitored post-procedure), as well as Kim's household expenses while she is unable to work during the up to 6 weeks recovery period.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Kim's urgent health situation. We would be so grateful if you would consider contributing to her gofundme account today. Any amount is appreciated!
