Kim’s fight to BEAT Colon cancer #kimstrong

My sister Kim Greene; Makayla and Kallie’s mama was diagnosed with colon cancer in August of this year 2019; 6 months after we lost our own mother unexpectedly to heart issues. To say the least this was an enormous hit after an enormous hit for all of us. My sister is a very strong woman and even after hearing this news she said to me.....”I am going to be ok. We got this. We have to stay positive. We’ve got this.” She was consoling me. My sister the person diagnosed was consoling me!
Surgery was scheduled for a month later and her prognosis was good. No bag. Probably wouldn’t have to have any radiation or chemo treatments either.
She had her surgery. And it went great! We were all very pleased not only by how well it went but by how well she did afterward. She was out of the hospital 2 days later! She was doing great! Moving around. Doing her normal everyday activities mostly. Of course we had to scold her at times. Ha! Because she forgets oh I shouldn’t be doing that.
She got her pathology report back 14 days later and was informed some of the lymph nodes that were removed had cancer cells and therefore she was diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer and would probably have to have chemo. After being referred to and seeing the oncologist she was informed she would have to undergo extensive chemo every 2 weeks for 6 months in order to cure her. Another hard hit.
This is not what any of us were expecting.
My sister is a strong woman who takes care of others for a living. She is a Radiologic/CT technologist. She also takes care of her family, is a caregiver to her mother in law and stays positive through the worst of times. She has dealt with finding her own mother when she passed, to dealing with that loss to now having to be a warrior for herself. She is a selfless person who loves her husband, daughters, and family so much. She is very independent also and has a hard time not being able to do what she’s got to do. Always going.
She now understands that there may be times she isn’t able to do what she needs to do because of her treatment. She worries about not working. About her family. About the medical bills.
We don’t want her worrying about anything other than keeping herself healthy and doing what she is supposed to do to stay that way. This is why we started this campaign. She has always been there for others. Always done things for others while she puts herself on the back burner. She’s had a heck of a year. And not just any person could get through what she has fought through already.
Its time for us to take care of her. To fight for her.
Help her fight. Help her stay focused on being healthy and getting through this. Help her stop worrying. These funds will help with medical bills. After having to unexpectedly pay half for our mother’s expenses when she passed. And now her own highly unexpected medical bills rolling in while she can’t work, this is what we felt we needed to do for her.
The emotional, physical, and financial burdens that weigh on her today she should not have to carry. She is strong. But with all of us she can be even stronger. #kimstrong
