Kim Baarstad is a pillar of the community, teacher of 30+ years, wife, mother, and life-long giver. In November of 2014, Kim was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was given 5 years to live. After surpassing the 6-year mark, Kim has fought this horrible disease with persistence and positivity. Now, in April of 2021, Kim is no longer able to undergo injection chemotherapies. Having taken over many of her vital organs, the cancer has progressed past a long-feared milestone. 


Kim is undergoing hormonal chemotherapy as her final form of treatment. We don’t know how much time she has left, but we know she wants to spend it with family. In 2016, Kim unexpectedly lost her husband, Bruce. She has spent the last 5 years watching her eldest son, Brant, become a teacher and marry his wife, Kallie. Her daughter, Kallin, has recently graduated from Concordia College with honors and began her career in the non-profit sector. In every moment, Kim has embraced her family and friends, and she has lived a life full of kindness, joy, and love. 


After a life of teaching, parenting, and giving in the Fargo-Moorhead community, we want to give back to Kim. With a wanderlust spirit and a limitless resolve, we want to give Kim the trip of a lifetime with her family. Years of medical treatment, bills and payments has made the reality of a trip inconceivable. Now, we want to make it possible for her. We are asking you, the friends and family, the students, the community of Kim to help. (KIM HAS NO IDEA THIS IS HAPPENING.) As a surprise from her family, friends, and the Fargo-Moorhead community, we want to give Kim the opportunity to fulfill her lifelong bucket list vacation.
