A member of our family was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As many of you know, Kim Slack has powered through more than her share of health issues in the past. In 2016 she had an aortic dissection which cause many organs to fail and have complications, but she surpassed every obstacle. After many surgeries over the years, she would keep showing us that she was a strong willed person and will battle through any obstacle, no matter the odds. When she was given the news that she had ovarian cancer and would need to undergo chemotherapy, then surgery, she knew she was in for a fight. Having the news that her first grandchild was coming, she knew it was the biggest obstacle she’s faced so far. Unfortunately, the cancer has caused more severe complications. The tumor perforated her intestines causing her to go septic (severe sickness). Surgery was her only option but the chances of her survival were very slim. Kim and her family had to make a decision that no family should ever have to make. Whether to proceed with the surgery, or for Kim to go on hospice. After much thought, she decided to receive hospice care. This decision is solely based on her wanting to spend time with her family, friends, and to create new memories with her grandson.
She has always been, and is still a strong individual. She is the heart of her family, and an active member within her church. Throughout the years, without knowing, she carries many titles on her shoulders. A beloved and devoted daughter, sister, mother, wife, aunt, grandmother, friend, teacher, student, and the list could go on. Unfortunately, cancer is a battle she is unable to overcome; however, she is still putting up a fight, but with a different battle plan. To spend as many days as possible around everyone who’s life she has had an impact on at one point or another. Seeing her smile everyday shows she made the right decision.
Now we are asking for your help. Any donations will go a long way to help Kim and her family. Medical expenses, utilities, and everyday needs such as food and household supplies are adding up. We, as a family, are asking for your help during this hard time. Any donations are greatly appreciated!
Thank you again for listening to our story.
