Kimrae’s Last Fight Against Cancer

Kimrae Alsheimer is no stranger to cancer.

Her battle began in 2009 with Breast Cancer, for which she received radiation, chemo and surgery. Following that, in 2012 she developed Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), which is a cancer of the blood. She received chemo and went into remission only to have her CLL come back again in 2015 and 2018, requiring more chemotherapy.

Now her fight has gotten much harder.

Kimrae is battling two different cancers at once. Her CLL is up to 90% in her bone marrow, which means it has almost taken over the part of the bone that produces Red Blood Cells, White Blood Cells, and Platelets. In addition to the CLL, she has developed Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma. This is an aggressive, fast growing form of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It breaks down the body’s ability to fight disease. Kimrae has already gone through chemo and radiation since September of 2021 in order to fight these two cancers together, however the Lymphoma has spread to other internal organs.

As it stands now, she is going to be getting a type of “Super Chemo” that is given over a course of two 21-day cycles. This chemotherapy will be the toughest of all with more aggressive side effects. If she’s able to make it through and is clear of the Lymphoma, she will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant to hopefully clear her of the CLL once and for all.

So to say the least, Kimrae will be going through the fight of her life.

On top of the physical toll that this is going to take on her, there will also be a lot of hospital bills that come with this terrible process, and that’s weighing on Kimrae and her husband, John as well. The last thing they should be thinking about is “how are we going to pay for this?”

We (her kids) may be a little biased here, but she is the best mom and the best person we know, and we want her to be around for years to come. So for those of you wondering how you can help, this is one way that you can. Whether it’s one dollar or one hundred, it will bless one of the best people we’ve all had the privilege of knowing. Mom’s lived the past 13 years praising Jesus in the middle of a storm and will continue to do so until the day He takes her home.
