Dear Friends and Family, I'm writing this message today with a heavy heart, a plea for help for our spicy girl, Kimchi. On the night of June 14th around 9PM, Kimchi took a fall from my bed which resulted in severe pain and distress. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, I rushed her to the emergency VCA here in Sacramento. After several x-rays, medications, and a comprehensive exam ($940 later), we discovered that Kimchi had suffered a non-displaced transverse fracture involving her left femoral neck - a broken hip. I was told to expect to pay $7000-9000 for surgery at the VCA and was advised to talk to Kimchi's vet with the hope it would be less expensive. The original hope was for Kimchi to recover through conservative, non-surgical treatment. However, after consultations with her vet and their surgeon, it was recommended that we proceed with a femoral head osteotomy, a surgical intervention necessary for her proper recovery. The estimated cost for this surgery is $4,733.14. Though this is far less than the original quote from the VCA, it is still a huge amount. Regrettably, upon reaching out to Kimchi's insurance company, I learned that this particular surgery is not covered. Therefore, there will be no reimbursement to mitigate these costs. I've explored other surgical options such as plating, screws etc, but the main priority is to ensure Kimchi receives the proper treatment she needs to heal. I must admit, it's not easy asking for help--in fact it's giving me a great deal of anxiety. Intrusive thoughts creep in, that I should be able to solely provide for Kimchi then feeling shame for not being able to afford this on my own. After speaking to a few folks (including several of Kimchi's sweet Instagram followers) I am working to push these thoughts aside, because I know that Kimchi's wellbeing is what truly matters. Kimchi has brought unimaginable joy to my life. Those who know us have seen it firsthand. She's my baby. Seeing her suffer is heartbreaking. If you've had the pleasure of meeting Kimchi, you'll know just how sweet and spicy she can be. So fearless and always looking to make a new friend. If she has ever brought a smile to your face, I humbly ask you to consider contributing to her surgery. My goal is for $5000 just in case additional needs arise as they often do. If we are able to meet this goal and the surgery is less than this I would gladly donate the rest to another animal's GoFundMe or to the local SPCA. Any donation, no matter how small, will greatly aid in covering Kimchi's medical expenses. If you're unable to donate, please consider sharing this campaign with others. Your positive thoughts, words of encouragement and help spreading the word about Kimchi's situation are just as valuable and appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your support means more than you know and we are infinitely grateful. Much love, Sarah Marie & Kimchi
