Hi, my name is Kimberly Anderson- Harding, and I'm fundraising for medication to stop the growth of my brain tumours.
Back in 1974, radiologists were not aware that radiation causes brain tumours. Thirty-two years later, in 2006, tumours started popping up on my occipital lobe, causing vision impairment.
I have had five brain tumour removal surgeries since we were married in 2006.
My brain surgeon Dr. Haw refers to working in my brain as "Whack-a-Mole!" They keep popping up. We laughed out loud! We know if we don't laugh, we'll cry.
Recently the surgeries have become more physically challenging. I'm not bouncing back as fast as I did sixteen years ago.
There's a drug therapy that Dr. Rebecca Harrison has committed to trying on my brain tumours for nine months. Her research has shown 50% success in stopping the growth of tumours. This evidence is an example of positive results from research monies. Each physician we've consulted has agreed that this is the best approach. So we have chosen this route to attempt to stop the growth.
Unfortunately, the research funds don't cover the cost of these drugs.
It will be coming out of our pocket.
Nine months of therapy will cost us $53,100.00.
So we've been accepted for treatment, starting in November 2022. Treatment consists of bi-weekly injections in Victoria.
We've included the details of the drug therapy here.
Mvasi is an injected drug that is my best chance at stopping the growth of recurring brain tumours. There is a proven 50% chance the medication WILL STOP tumour growth!
The drug might be funded if these tumours were elsewhere in my body, but funding has not been approved for brain tumours. Huh!
We looked, we asked.
Mvasi (bevacizumab-awwb) is a generic drug made by Amgen Inc. It achieved FDA approval on September 14, 2017.
It's 2,950.00 per bi-weekly injection, so 5,900.0 a month.
We are grateful as the manufacturer, Amgen, contributes 50% of the cost. The retail cost is $5,900.00 per injection. So the total price would have been $106,200.00at the rate of twice a month for nine months.
We will depend on you, our community, and your kindness and generosity to reach this goal.
Thank you, Friends and Family, as you choose to continue to walk beside us on this journey!!
I intend to continue getting better every day with the full intention of watching our kids and their kids grow. This is how we can be part of their community.
Please help by sharing this on your
FB, Instagram, Telegram, Twitter or favourite social media platforms, emailing specific people or even spreading the word in person!
No donation is too small or too large.
Please give now.
100% of the money collected will go towards drug therapy. Proof of this will be given on request.
Suppose the first goal is reached and tumour growth is STOPPED.
We have a stretch goal!
If our goal to cover meds is met or exceeded, funds will be transferred to other existing causes and needs- specifically, the need for respite. IE foster care, special needs care, and parent care.
Updates will be given regularly, and transparency will be held in high regard with the use of funds.
I appreciate your help!
