Kimberly’s Journey With Cancer

Donation protected
Kimberly Gonzalez is my daughter in law. Kim is married to my son Bruce Hammond. They were married on December 5, 2021.

Kim isn't doing well and it seems like her time here with us is going to be shorter than what we really expected. To jump from the beginning to now. Going into New Years of 2021 Kim had a headache assuming it was from being hung over and what now. Her headache lasted longer than usual and she went into the ER. After doing a scan they found a dark area in her head and found it to be a tumor. After the biopsy they found what it was and it was Glioblastoma, cancer. Feb 2nd she goes into surgery to remove 80% of the cancer the day after they moved into their first apartment together. Thank god she recovered well the doctors had told us that this cancer wasn't going to spread and that if it was to come back that it would only remain in her head. In 2021 she has gone through so much with radiation, chemo, loss of hair and all this happening and planning their wedding. October she finished her last round of oral chemo medication and was still on her clinical trial pending to finishing this month. Fast forward to coming back from their honeymoon. She had been complaining about
her back. She thought she was having sciatic nerve pain as she was showing all the signs. The last week of February she was having a lot of pain to her back. When she tried to go to the bathroom she fell from the bed. Feb 28th, my son takes her to the ER where they did an MRI on her lower back and found that the same tumor that was in her brain has found it's way down her spinal cavity and made a new home in her lower back and reduced her limitation to walking. She immediately went into a 10 day radiation. After doing another MRI to her head they also found a little spot on the back of her head. Hoping that the radiation was to help eliminate the tumor, along with her ability to walk. Best case senario was she was going to be with limited walking abilities, worst case that she wasn't going to be able to walk. The cancer became so bad and aggressive that at this point it is terminal. There is nothing the doctors could do but just help her be comfortable, they cannot operate because where the cancer is located they would actually do more damage to her. On 3/23/22
they took her to get a shunt (small tube in her
brain) to help relieve the fluid and the pressure
from her brain. Her doctor called my son and advised him that everything went well with the procedure but as of now they honestly don't know how much time she has left. They want to treat her to make her as comfortable as possible. The road ahead for the my son Bruce will be a long one. The family will be putting all of their focus and their efforts on Kim. Due to the fact that they are a one-income family, this fundraiser has been made to help ease the financial burdens (medical expenses, lost income, rent, etc) my son is undergoing during this devastating time. For anyone that knows my son, Kimberly is his whole life. No young newly married couple should have to go through this devastating experience at the greatest, happiness moment of their lives.
