My name is Chelsea and my sister is Kimberly Musick. She is outgoing, adventerous, compassionate and selfless. These are just a few of the words that would describe Kim.
In the past you could find her jumping out of airplanes, feeding the homeless or making people smile with her infectious smile.
On February 17th 2016, Kim was walking up the stairs with crutches (healing from a hurt ankle that was injured a few weeks prior) and lost her balance. Kimberly fell down our stairs backwards and the impact sent her head through the wall. She came close to snapping her neck and becoming a quadriplegic.
Kim was immediately taken to the ER after the fall, but was released just a few hours later. In the weeks following, Kim had started to slowly decline and had appointments with multiple doctors for her head, back, neck and foot.
We found out that she has a coup and contrecoup concussion, as well has having damage to her frontal and occipital lobe, hypothalamus and her cerebellum. She also has whiplash, atlas damage, 5 pinched nerves, and 2 buldging disks.
Kim is in constant pain and can not walk or stand. She is either in a wheelchair or in a bed and needs 24hour care from others.
Kim has fully lost her memory and is still trying to learn simple but very important things in her life like her family and personal information (birthday, name, age).
Over the past few months Kim has been experiencing black outs that last for up to 1 minute. When she comes back from a black out, often times she loses more memory.
She has had over 100 black out since the fall in Februray.
She has also lost 51lbs from her brain turning off the ability to have hunger and eat from the brain injury. She was in a hospital for 2 weeks because she lost the ability to swallowand needed a feeding tube. She regained the ability to swallow over that time, but now she is having trouble keeping any food down, resulting in more weight loss, lack of nutrition and her blood sugar dropping under 68.
Kim was spent a few more weeks in hospitals being diagnosed with gastroparesis which is a condition that affects the stomach muscles and prevents proper stomach emptying.
Over the past 4 months Kim has been hospitalized (in 7 different hospitals, trying to get answers), some for more than a week at a time.
She has had appointments with different doctors for her back and pain, multipule neurologists, orthopediecs, chiropractors, natural doctors, functional neurologists, accupunccutist and physical theripsts.
They dont have a defintive answer for exactly what is going on or how to treat her, but with every day, she is getting weaker and descreasing.
Kim and my mom have been staying in a hotel for weeks at a time to be closer to the doctors for daily visits as well as having the ability to be in a handicap accessible room.
It is very difficult for her to get up the stairs in our house and often time she passes out from an overload of the pain. Most of her doctors are in PA or Burlington, NJ. She is seeing doctors several times a week for treatments to hopefully help with recovery.
Kim has started multiple non conventional therapies that are not covered by insurance. Several thousands of dollars in bills are piling up from visits with the Doctors and copays from hospital visits and stays over the past few months, as wellas hotel stays.
As we are still praying and searching for answers, we ask that you would please consider donating whatever you feel led to give, to help get Kimberly back to the vibrant girl we all know.
We are extremely grateful for anything you can give.
Thank you for all of your prayers, love and support over these past few months. Please continue to pray for Kimberlys recovery and wisdom for the Doctors.
Thank you and God Bless,
Chelsea and the Musick Family
