Kimberly J Barrett Mem. Nursing Scholarship Fund

The Barrett Family is requesting funds to create the Kimberly J Barrett Memorial Nursing Scholarship for an East Bridgewater High School senior pursuing a career in nursing.
Kim was a longtime EB resident, and had a passion for nursing, so much in fact she made it her life’s work. She began attending and graduating from Southeastern Tech, achieving her LPN in 1986. She then went on to receive her RN from Brockton Hospital school of Nursing in 1994. She would then follow up by attaining her BSN from Curry College in 2006, at which time she received the additional honor of being inducted into the Sigma Teta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. In 2008, Kim finished her education by obtaining her MSN from UMass Boston ultimately achieving her goal of becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. In her final semester at UMass Boston, Kim received her initial diagnosis of Breast Cancer. Despite this horrible news, she continued to push forward to obtain her goals. Over the years, despite many more setbacks with metastatic breast cancer, she continued to work because it meant so much to her. Kim loved helping others and through her work, she was able to accomplish the task of caring for people.
In order to honor Kim’s selfless ways, we would like to continue the gift of caring and giving to keep her spirit alive, this will be done through the scholarship.
