KIM DIAGNOSED WITH LUNG CANCER
On April 3, 2015 my sister, Kimberly Johnson, was diagnosed with extensive stage small cell lung cancer. This type of cancer is fast moving, and often not diagnosed until it has metastasized, leaving few options for treatment. Kim has two tumors in her right lung, and the cancer has spread to her spine. She is 47yrs old.
From her initial diagnosis, until her arrival home on June 3rd, Kim endured the following:
04/05/15 - During surgery to place a chemo port in Kim's chest, she suffered a collapsed lung.
04/07/15 - While recovering in ICU from the collapsed lung, Kim developed pnuemonia. At this point, she was fighting for her life with every breath.
04/11/15 - Doctors told our family that Kim's best chance for survival was to place her on a ventilator and sedate her into a coma, until the pnuemonia cleared.
04/17/15 - While under sedation, Kim began chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, which was pressing on her windpipe.
04/29/15 - On Kim's 47th birthday, she was taken off the ventilator and was no longer in a coma.
05/10/15 - On Mother's Day, Kim's pnuemonia had cleared. Plans were made to move her to rehab.
05/21/15 - Kim regained full cognition of her situation and surroundings on our beloved mother's birthday. The best gift ever!

KIM GOES HOME
06/03/15 - After two weeks at Ballard Rehabilitation Center in San Bernadino, and exactly two months from her initial diagnosis, we were so grateful to welcome Kim home.
KIM'S TREATMENT PLAN
Chemotherapy - Kim has had three rounds of chemo to manage her tumors so that she can breathe, and is scheduled to have three more rounds by the end of August. Chemotherapy is a treatment, not a cure, and is all Western medicine can offer her at this time.
2nd Opinion - June 30, 2015 @City of Hope, Duarte.
Alternative Treatments & Diet - Focused on rebuilding Kim's immune system to give her strength to fight the cancer into remission and cure. Rate of success is VERY high, as is the price. Therapies range in cost from $100 -$250.00 a day, and some overseas clinics charge thousands of dollars. Our goal is to begin alternative treatment(s) in July, immediately following City of Hope.

ABOUT KIM
Kim was a nurse at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora from April 1988 - July 2002, where her sunny disposition and compassionate heart were gifts to her patients, both in and out of the maternity ward.
In 2002, Kim was placed on disability for fibromiyalga, and chronic fatigue. She has dealt with physical pain for many years due to her disabilities , however she never complains.
Fortunately, my sister is not a quitter. Never has been, never will be. Although chemo's side effects are taking a toll, she's still "Kim", putting the needs of others ahead of her own.

KIM AND HER FAMILY NEED HELP
Kim has been married to Keith, her devoted "spirit husband", which is the name she called him when she awoke from her 19 days in sedation. They've been married for 25 years, and have two children; Nicole, 22yrs, and Matthew, 19yrs.
Keith, a truck driver by trade, has not worked since 2013, due to a serious accident in which his neck and back were hurt. Whether or not he will return to work is unknown.
After being accepted by three universities, Nicole chose UC Irvine to remain close to her mother while earning her Bachelors Degree in English.
Matthew is in his 2nd semester at Victor Valley College, where he has earned straight A's! He aspires to be an anesthesiologist.

KIM'S GRATEFUL FOR THE CHANCE, PLEASE HELP HER TO MAKE THE BEST OF IT.
Kimberly Johnson is one of the most selfless, compassionate people you will ever meet. Since alternate therapies truly DO exist for lung cancer, a shift in perception is needed to focus our minds on CURES, rather than treatment. Kim has some hard choices to make between cure vs. cost, and time is of the essence.
No donation is too small. Kim and our entire family are forever grateful.
