Anyone who knows me knows that God and my family are my entire world.  I am blessed to have married my childhood sweetheart, Rob, and together we have four amazing children (Robyn-8. Katelyn-6, Ryan-5, and Kollyn-3).  Each day I enjoy beholding all that God has blessed me with through the laughter and fun that we have.

Child advocacy has always been apart of my being, whether it was studying to be a pediatrician in undergrad or obtaining a law degree in order to help children and families.  Becoming a mother lead me to be the biggest advocate of all and helped me to realize a new passion.  My most recent venture  has lead me to teaching and I absolutely love it, so much that I went back to school to obtain a Master's in Education (and later another doctorate degree).  I actually will graduate next month and am so proud.

Needless to say, I am a super busy person, as my typical week is filled with my family, serving at my church alongside of my husband, working full time as a teacher, studying for and attending classes, and so much more.  For this reason I did not find it strange when I was feeling fatigued often.  My fatigue was met with excruciating headaches and a new change in my eyesight.  Again, I thought that perhaps these symptoms were due to my busy lifestyle.  I went to see two optometrists, which resulted in me seeing a retina specialist, who ultimately ordered an MRI.  The MRI revealed a tumor in my brain, called a pituitary adenoma, that was pressing against my optic nerves and causing a change in my vision.  This tumor, although and thankfully benign, is a bothersome threat to my eyesight that must be removed.  Upon receiving the results, I was referred to a neurosurgeon and scheduled for surgery within a week.  To say that I have been in a whirlwind is an understatement.

Through it all I am thankful for family and friends, who are supporting and encouraging me to not worry about anything and focus on recovery.  My medical expenses are extreme, due to the brain surgery, hospitalization time, including in the ICU, and the recovery.  I also am unable to go back to work for some time.  A close friend reminded me of the fundraisers, support, and love that I show to many and asked me to consider telling my story.  I am glad that I received this advice.

My husband and I are both hard working individuals and we enjoy helping to make life more enjoyable for those around us.  It is my hope that my story can help others understand that some health concerns may need closer medical attention.  I also hope that my story can encourage others to go through whatever life brings with the love and confidence that God is with you each step of the way.
