Kim Roos’ Cancer Journey

Beschermde donatie
1/27 UPDATE: I am so heartbroken and sick to my stomach over having to get back on here, reopen and update this fundraiser and ask for help yet again, 2 years later. My Mom’s cancer journey has been a wild ride. She is an absolute warrior. We’ve watched her defy odds, overcome obstacles again and again and just keep fighting. She is the strongest person I know.
Below I will share the update on her cancer from her own words for those who haven’t seen it already. It is my wish and goal that we can raise enough money to support the expenses involved with traveling for Radiation treatments as well creating a financial cushion so through the next several months my parents can worry a little less about money, and use that energy for Mom to heal and keep moving forward. As well as enjoying every second of the time we are blessed with together without financial stress and pressures. Please contact me with any additional questions.

Mom’s Update:
“So. Bad health update. Although my neck down showed stable cancer my mri that was looking into my bells palsy showed my cancer has moved to my brain.
Today i start radiation with a not so great prognosis but hoping to push forward and stop the cancer with 10 days radiation.
My family is wreaked. I do not know where the future will lead us and what we need. Any cards of support would be welcome at the farm which will be changing drastically over the next few months. ((Ask me for mailing address))
Please send healing surviving thoughts and hope for our future to be extended as far as possible. Thank you for your love. My wee ones need it! I will keep everyone updated as best as as possible. Love to all.”
UPDATE: Hi friends, family and community-- as many of you know, I have been suffering extreme back pain since September. I just wanted to update everyone... We have been at EMMC since Tuesday and receiving excellant care. I was misdiagnosed with osteoporosis for these last couple months. We confirmed today that i have stage 4 hormonal based breast cancer which has moved to my bones. Fortunately its highly treatable, looking forward, and I will be on a hormone therapy treatment plan in the next few days after some more testing. The hope is the treatment will stabilize my bones enough that spinal surgery will be an option to repare the damage. I am on bed rest at EMMC and the goals the last few days have been getting the pain under control and getting to the root of the problem. We are finally getting somewhere, which is validating, but obviously no one wants this kind of news. I am in good hands at the hospital and my family is with me every step of the way. We are focusing on the positives, not looking back at the misdiagnosis, moving forward and looking ahead. I WILL be ok, and we will get through this, because that is the only option We will take any love, strength, prayers, inspiration, or light you want to send our way. ((If you have any questions feel free to get in touch with Gabrielle Roos. )) —————— As some of you know Kim Roos has been struggling with severe back pain for several months now. In the recent weeks the pain has became unbearable so she started embarking on the journey to get to the bottom of the issues.

Much testing and many appointments later, she was diagnosed with osteoporosis in her hips and thoracic spine.

Because of the VERY physical nature of her work she gave herself compression fractures in her vertebrae from heavy lifting (CHEESE POTS!!!) which she needs to be taking it very easy so the fractures can heal. My mom is awaiting more tests, MRI, etc before she starts treatment. At this point we do not know what the treatment will consist of or what the future looks like. She has been doing has many holistic things as she can for pain management, from physical therapy to tai chi, without much relief.

Meanwhile she is getting worse and is in more pain every day. She cannot walk, she cannot drive, she cannot lift anything and she can only stand for short periods of time. She will not be able to work for the foreseeable future. Though the dairy business slows down in the winter, the animals still need to be fed, milked and cared for--none of this which she is able to help with. She wasn't able to wreath this season, and she won't be able to substitute teach this winter as she usually does.

Those of you who know my Mom know how much being laid up is breaking her heart. She is tough as nails, but she needs to rest and heal, which she is having an incredibly hard time doing because she knows how much they are (and will be) financially hurting this winter without her income. Being a self employed business owner, as far as we know, there arent a ton of options for her to get help from the State (temporary disability, etc.)..

My Mom is an absolute inspiration. She and my Dad have built their farm and business from the ground up. They have taught their children how to be incredible workers and that we can literally accomplish anything our heart desires. My Mom is constantly sharing her knowledge and support in the farming and dairy community. As well as always being a loving and supportive teacher and friend in general.

Though my Dad has been holding it down (financially and for the family and farm) he can't keep this pace... the winter is hard as it is. My parents are far too proud to ask for help, so believe me when I tell you:
They truly need help.

Any donations will go towards my Mom's medical bills, as well as helping with their regular bills from lost income, and animal feed&necessities. I think with a little of the weight off her shoulders my Mom can channel her energy into healing and finding her new normal.

Thank you in advance.
