Kim Pearson’s story

Donation protected
On March 15th my friend Kim contacted me to let me know she wasn’t going to be joining in on the St. Patrick Day festivity’s that we had planned for months. Seven couples from the fire department booked rooms in Orlando to celebrate and drink green beer. Kim called to say she had a clot in her leg and would not be able to travel. Saturday morning we spoke and she let me know she was scheduled for a procedure to remove the clot later in the day. The procedure she was going in for is called a Thrombectomy.  That same evening I received a devastating phone call from her fiancé Rick and learned our sweet Kim was in critical care. While outside I checked my mail. Kim and Ricks wedding invitation was in our mailbox. Take a moment and think about how incredibly unfair this is. Kim is supposed to be marrying her best friend on June 15, 2019.
Kim’s entire life has changed. Her fiancés life has changed. Her mother, father and sisters life has changed. Kim was now on a ventilator after several neurological assessments and brain scans it was determined that there was  severe brain damage to the left side.  Once this was determined Kim was airlifted and sent to Weston Florida  where a great team of doctors performed a craniotomy. For those who don’t know a craniotomy is where they remove a piece of the skull to relieve pressure on the brain. The piece of skull that was removed was then placed in her abdomen to keep the skull piece alive while the swelling  on her brain went down. During this time Kim also had a tracheotomy and a feeding tube placed. Shortly after she was moved to another facility where she was weaned off of  the vent and began breathing all on her own again.  After many weeks of recovery the swelling subsided some but she required yet another procedure where a shunt was placed to help relieve pressure and fluid. Now that the shunt has done its job the craniotomy has now been reversed. Kim is now going to be  moved from Weston Florida to Atlanta Georgia at a place called Shepherd Center. This is one of the  best facility’s in the United States for the type of trauma Kim has endured. Once she arrives there she will be given a time period to recover and then the real work  starts where she will begin  rehabilitation. Kim during this time will need to show progress and meet the goals they set for her.
As you can imagine the medical bills and expenses are starting to add up quite quickly. Some of the expenses are not covered at all by insurance. We can’t predict the future and what kind of care she may need. So I beg you to help my friend with any size donation. To know Kim is to love her so please consider donating to this amazing woman. No donation is too big or too small. Anything helps. Thank you. ❤
