My furry nurses taking a siesta with me. Last week I had a biopsy on my tongue for a spot that would not heal up. The biopsy came back as squamous cell carcinoma and it is an aggressive cancer. I have had a CT scan and a PET scan along with meeting with the oncologist. The good news is that the cancer has not metastasized and is considered local advanced.
After meeting with the specialist yesterday and because of the size of the tumor and that it is affecting both sides of my tongue his recommendation is to completely remove my tongue to make sure that we get all the cancer & stop it before it reaches my larynx which would mean I would lose my voice.
I will be in the hospital for 4 to 5 weeks at least, will have a new tongue made from muscle in my thigh, have a tracheotomy and a feeding tube. I will also have to learn to swallow, eat and speak again. I will also probably have to have chemo and/or radiation.
The surgery will be in the next week or so.....please keep me and my family in your prayers. I am a fighter and have so much more in this life that I still want to do.
