Help Kim fight cancer & secure more treatment
Donazione protetta
Hi, my name is Louise and I am so very lucky to call Kim my friend. I am writing this on behalf of Kim’s friends and family.
First of all, thank you for clicking on the link and for reading this. Now, let me tell you about Kim…. I hope when you know more about her, that you will consider donating something to help support her continued treatment journey.
Kim, known as Kimmy to her friends, is one of life’s positive, happy, kind, easy going, ‘grab life by the balls’, fun and giving type of people. She is mum to Andrea and David (who lives in New Zealand and is soon to be married) and Nanna to Mia and Zack.
Kimmy has spent her life being active – working in outdoor pursuits taking people canoeing and for over 20 years supported young people and adults in their career journey and reaching their potential. She has readily given to charities and individuals over many years and would give her last £10 to someone in need. She isn’t quite as perfect as she sounds though, she is actually terrible at taking photos ha ha.
In September 2018, just a week after the photo above, Kimmy heard the words we dreaded, ‘You have triple negative breast cancer’ and she has been battling this disease since. In Oct 18 her treatment of weekly IV chemotherapy, was followed in March 19 with surgery - a full mastectomy and removal of lymph. Radiotherapy treatment followed and a few months later she was able to return to work. But in Feb 2022, Kimmy found lumps in her neck chest and received the devastating news - the cancer had returned, and it was now stage IV metastatic triple negative breast cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer cannot be cured but it can be treated. Due to the type of cancer Kim is not eligible for immunotherapy or hormone treatment. Chemotherapy is the main treatment available.
It is no longer possible for Kim to work as she spends the majority of her time between hospital appointments and having treatment – since May 22 she’s endured 23 rounds of chemo with Carboplatin, which has now stopped working. She is on her third round of a new, more aggressive chemo called Paclitaxel. Unfortunately, her hair has now started to fall out again and it’s unlikely to ever grow back as she will be treated with chemotherapy until it stops working. Andrea, her daughter gave her a pixie crop hair cut today - the next step will be to find a good quality, natural looking wig and it would be great to get funds towards that.
Through all of this time none of us have heard Kim moan, complain or be defeated about what she is going through. She is still the most positive person, keeping her motivation and zest for life and she is determined to face this battle head on. She is doing her absolute best!
She is doing everything in her power to stay super healthy by adopting an integrative approach to the medical treatment she is receiving which includes alternative treatments like acupuncture, oxygen therapy, intravenous vitamin C therapy, taking a host of supplements and continuing an organic plant based diet. Kim continues to research effective treatments that can be integrated into her treatment plan and has found treatments both in the UK and overseas. These treatments come at a significant price. This is why I have set this fundraiser up, to see if we can help Kim to maintain the extremely high monthly cost of her current treatments and any additional treatments, likely to costs £1000s that may help her to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible.
Any amount you are able to donate will be very gratefully received. Thank you so much.
