Kim Gibbs Memorial Garden

On August 20, 2020, our friend and Royal Oak City Commissioner, Kim Gibbs, passed away two weeks after being found unconscious in her home. Kim was only 48 years old.
Her legacy will be the positive way she touched our lives with her upbeat attitude and passion for helping the people in her community, the neighborhoods of Royal Oak and preserving the legacy of the Royal Oak Farmers Market; she was a true public servant in every sense of the word.
Kim was a frequent guest at the monthly luncheons held by The Old Broads Group (OBG Auxiliary), a loosely organized club of women business owners in Royal Oak. We felt it fitting that a beautiful memorial garden be created in Kim’s memory to match her beautiful, kind soul. Along with new plants, we hope to also incorporate some of Kim’s beloved perennials from her home into the design. We are seeking approval from the City to establish Kim’s Memorial Garden at Barton Park South; a Royal Oak park that sits off of Troy Street in between the Emagine theater and Barton Senior Towers.
We expect to complete the project by Spring 2021.
We thank anyone and everyone who donates to help us achieve our goal of memorializing Kim’s beautiful spirit for years to come. *All funds collected will be transferred into the OBG Auxiliary bank account to be used solely for the purpose of establishing the memorial garden for Kim. Any funds left over will be donated to one of Kim’s favorite charities, Jimmy’s Kids, an organization that serves children who are indigent, physically or emotionally impaired and in some cases, parentless; and whose goal is to make every young person feel safe, valued and loved surrounding the Christmas season.
