Not everyone is as fortunate enough to have a loving big sister. But I am. Kim has been my mentor, protector, and mother in many ways. When we were young our father was killed in a car accident, and our mother abandoned us. My uncle Ron and his wife Ann adopted us into their family after that, and Kim stepped up in a big way to care for me. She would wash my hair and braid it, communicate for me when I couldn’t understand due to my hearing and speech impediment, and protect me from bullies. I’ve always been so grateful for her.
Kim is now a mother to a wonderful three year old boy,Alex. Her and her Husband Chris moved out of Alberta to BC to be closer to Chris’ parents, and soon after had Alex. It was a dream come true for them as they feared after years of trying that they would never have a child of their own.
But now Kim is sick. Last month all of our family were told by the Drs that we needed to come to the hospital because Kim wouldn’t last long. She has a rare auto-immune disease causing her body to swell up to the point where she isn’t able to touch her finger tips together. Her tongue could swell up and suffocate her, and at the time she had an infection. When I went out to see her the Drs were able to save her life from the infection with anti-bacterial medication, thank God! But her auto-immune condition will be a long a difficult recovery, and may be with her life long.
I don’t know what I would have done when I was young without Kim. She helped me like no one else could have. I’m so grateful for her. But now her little boy, Alex, might not have her like I did. I want to do anything I can to help her, and so I’m asking for all of your help.
Kim and Chris are going to be in the hospital for a long time. Chris may not be able to work to support them, and Alex needs to be cared for too. They will be paying for medications as her condition is rare and likely won’t be covered for many of her needs.
We are hoping to raise $20,000 to help support Kim and Chris through this crisis. Please consider giving $25, $50, or $100. With your help and Gods grace, Kim will fully recover and their family won’t be left destitute from this disaster. Thank you so much for you help! It means the world to me!
