Kiltwalk - Turn the tables x doof studios Dundee

Story

I’m doing the Dundee Kiltwalk (20 miles!) on August 17th, raising money for Turn The Tables x Doof Studios, an incredible charity using music to change lives. Music’s always been a big part of my life — but it means even more to my 11-year-old son. He was non-verbal until around 3 or 4, and I truly believe music played a big part in helping him find his voice. We’ve had all sorts of instruments over the years — his first was a harmonica at age 3 (which he still plays!) all the way to DJ decks last Christmas. His love for music started early and hasn’t stopped. It’s made me realise just how important music really is for kids — especially now, when schools barely include it anymore. It’s treated like an ‘extra’ instead of the lifeline it can be. And the arts? They’re always the first thing to get cut and it breaks my heart. That’s why this walk means so much to me. Turn The Tables was founded by Scottish DJ Robbie Tolson after losing a friend to suicide. In his own recovery, he began running DJ workshops in homeless shelters and now the charity supports people facing homelessness, poverty, mental health struggles and more, all through the power of music. And now, they’ve teamed up with Doof Studios and Dundee legend Hannah Laing to open a brand new community DJ space right here in Dundee — giving young people a safe, creative outlet through music. Poor Robbie (the founder) has spent the last 3 months trying to register the charity in time — but as they’ve only recently gained charitable status, they’ve not been able to complete the process in time for this year’s walk. So, I’m doing this the DIY way! Every single donation made here will go directly to Turn The Tables x Doof Studios once the walk is complete either via cheque or direct donation.
