"Far too many people in our county live tortured lives. Poverty, crime, and addiction have become the norm, when it doesn’t have to be that way. While there is no easy answer, I firmly believe that attacking the root of the problem is key. It’s important to embrace those that have been ignored, and help them redefine what they believe is possible for themselves.

Access to education is necessary, and with the current administration in the US, that right is being threatened to marginalized communities. We can longer count on others to fix the problems that ail us. We must take a grassroots approach to our communities, and be the change we want to see. Killer Joe is that promise."

The Story

After 30 years in prison, Killer Joe a reformed pimp, returns to a Chicago he barely recognizes: wracked by violence, addiction, and hopelessness. He begins preaching to the youth, hoping to ignite change, but when he’s re-arrested for a parole violation, his message lives on only through Hakim, a teenager who internalizes Joe’s teachings and spreads them across the South Side.
