Hi, my name is Mary Rooney. I am Chairperson of the Irish Kidney Association (Kilkenny Branch).

I will be turning 70 this year and as a birthday challenge, I am going to undertake the climbing of Croagh Patrick on March 31st 2026, with a little help from my family!

With your generosity, I wish to raise funds for the Irish Kidney Association (Kilkenny Branch) as they have offered me tremendous support over the past 21 years, throughout my sickness and recovery.

I was offered a new lease of life when I had my first kidney transplant in 2005. After 12 years my kidney function had deteriorated significantly, and I had to go on dialysis. In 2020 after 3 years on dialysis I was extremely lucky to have a second kidney transplant, just one month after my husband passed away.

The Kilkenny Branch of the Irish Kidney Associated offered support throughout my journey. They offer practical supports to renal patients and their families for example, support centre accommodation, financial aid, emotion support through counselling and peer support services, advocating for better policies, access and delivery of services.

To date I am doing well with medication and regular check up with my GP and Consultants.

I would not be here today but for the kindness and generosity of my donors and their families and I cannot thank them enough for the gift they have given me.

I would be grateful for any donation you can offer to this fantastic charity. I will post pictures of my journey once I reach the top!!
