Kilimanjaro Climb for Uru Academy
Donation protected
This July I have the opportunity to hike up Mount Kilimanjaro for a cause that is so important. In hiking up Kilimanjaro, I will be raising money for Uru Academy, a school in Tanzania that provides free education to over 80 students. These students are orphans and street children, who otherwise would not have an educational opportunity. The goal of this hike is to raise enough money to build a classroom for the ever-expanding school. I learned about Uru Academy from my high school coach, Kelly McClintock. Throughout four years on her teams, we have raised money and learned about the education issues outside of our small world here in Vermont. Kelly has worked with this organization for five years and this will be her third time hiking Mount Kilimanjaro for the school. I am extremely thankful to join her this year. This opportunity struck a chord with me because of what I want to do in my future. I plan to major in Global Studies in college and want to go into international development specifically in education. I have been so fortunate to receive an excellent education and I believe that education is a fundamental human right. Education is empowering and gives people the resources necessary for success. $2000 of the money raised will go directly towards Uru Academy, and anything over that will help cover some of the hiking costs. Any donation amount is very welcomed and I appreciate your support.
