Kilimanjaro Clean and Porter Assistance Project

The global outbreak of Coronavirus has stopped tourism in its tracks. Whilst it has impacted every one of us in one way or another, for many, it is not just an inconvenience but a real question of survival.
Mt. Kilimanjaro is a hub of tourism in Northern Tanzania, drawing in over 50,000 people per year who attempt to reach the summit. The climbers are supported by an army of hard-working porters who haul heavy loads up and down the mountain for international tourists.
Porters and mountain crew often support as many as 100 people in their extended family networks. But with COVID-19 no one is climbing the mountain and the employment opportunity has completely vanished. July and August are normally busy months on Kilimanjaro that generate a decent income for these porters and their families. Not this year.
Working in collaboration with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) we are raising money for our crew of porters and others to clean the mountain and campsites.
This project will work to solve two problems:
1. We will be creating essential employment for porters and mountain crew this year.
2. We will be cleaning up Kilimanjaro and removing the garbage and rubbish that has accumulated on the mountain.
Every 15 Pounds, we raise will go to pay for a porter or mountain crew member to spend one day cleaning the mountain. We would love to provide employment for our 50 person mountain crew to clean the mountain for 8 days in August.
This is an appeal to help those that were already vulnerable through this global catastrophe. It would mean the world to us if we could support the Kilimanjaro porters through this. We need the funds by mid-July in order to organize a cleanup in August when the snow on Kilimanjaro has abated.
We will be cleaning the Lemosho Route and the crater wall and the project will only be funding porters and local guides in Tanzania.
