Kili For K9s: Climbing to Give Shelter Dogs a Second Chance

When I was in second grade, my family adopted our beloved Casey from the League For Animal Welfare, and she quickly became my best friend. Now as an adult, I have rescued all of my own dogs, and my youngest, Reggie, is also from LFAW. In honor of my rescue pups and all the incredible dogs waiting for their forever homes, I’m taking on an epic adventure: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro—the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world.

Through my Kili For K9s campaign, I’m dedicating this climb to raising awareness and funds for LFAW so even more dogs can find a loving family.

The League is the oldest and one of the largest no-kill shelters in the area, providing much-needed care for unwanted, lost and neglected cats and dogs in our community. Learn more here.

As I prepare for this challenge, I’ll be taking LFAW shelter dogs on my training hikes and sharing about personalities and stories to help them find homes. My goal is to raise 10 cents for every foot of elevation on mountain (19,341), and for even more motivation, if I make it to the summit I will personally pledge to cover the full adoption fee for a special pup to be chosen later!
