Hi, Hello, Everyone; my name is Kiko Pollock. About 26 years ago, I ended up losing my leg. I ended up having the bottom half of my left leg amputated due to my nicotine addiction. I didn't go into it directly from the trauma that I do into drug addiction. I spent the next 18 years in active addiction, something like that. I now have 12 years clean in recovery has been the best time of my life, right I have a life these days are, so basically, what happened is I came into recovery in 2010, I got clean, and a couple of years ago. I started to heal my emotions and my recovery. I got invited to a retreat by my sponsor up in New Hampshire; when I went up there, I realized I was so overweight that I couldn't correctly wipe myself while using the restroom. I thought to myself, that was so undignified. How can I come into recovery and do all this mental, emotional and spiritual healing, but now I find myself killing myself with food! I had blown up to almost 400 pounds. I was at my heaviest ever; I was 395 lb. Well, that was just unacceptable!! Something inside of me flipped a switch, and I found that overweight and obese, morbidly obese unfit, and something triggered me on the inside to start assuming responsibility for the body that was given to me by this life. I began intermittent fasting, and then I realized how much food I was consuming. I then started calorie restriction, and then I moved over to a plant-based diet. A few weeks after that, I found a local community pool, and I added swimming to my daily regimen at least three to four days a week. I started getting back into the love of being in the water. It was a high for me. I then joined a community group on Facebook about swimming and met someone who is an Open Water swimmer and a coach himself. So Michael started to give me some coaching tips with my swimming. We ended up developing a friendship over time. Michael suggested that I reach out to a coach out here and see if I could join masters swim program I did talk to a coach and ended up with a scholarship to swim on the Hammerhead Aquatics Masters team. I now swim 4 days a week with 3 days rest. I was also invited by Michael and some of his other club members from his Swim Club in San Francisco, California the South End Rowing Club to their annual September Alcatraz Invitational swim. this is a once-in-a-lifetime amazing opportunity I would love for you guys to help me get out there and put all of this training I have been doing for about a year into action.
