As Kiko and Kaikai, who have always been healthy and active living as medical alert dogs to both of us, helping us through many medical episodes - one month before their 13th birthday - their lives started to change.
Sunday, March 1st - Kiko woke up - unable to move his back legs. After seeing the vet who wanted to operate on his spine, we chose holistic care, he has had weekly acupuncture and herbal medicines, and now is on theraputic oils and continues his weekly care, and daily care at home.
With multiple weekly acupuncture treatments, and holistic care and a special back brace. He has started walking with help and support and moving his back legs in every direction. Needs to have therapy to help him relearn, to walk slow and take it one step at time. But he continues to improve.
Kai Kai, on Thursday, March 18th went in for her annual teeth cleaning. Including blood work. Her blood work showed that the white blood cells which are supposed to be less than 4000 were 39,500. This caused the doctors to run more tests including an xray. Xray showed one lung to be filled with liquid. She spend two days in the hospital on heavy antibiotics and treatments for pneumonia. Two days later - xrays and blood work showed no change. We are told to take her to a specialist. She has a tumor in her lung and had to have it removed. She spent today having an ultrasound of her entire body and tomorrow the surgeon will cut her from the middle of her back to the front of her chest and remove the tumor in her lung. It will be sent for biopsy. We pray that it is not cancer.
