Kike is a very active soccer player and rumbustious 12-year-old. Visits to the doctor's office due to falls and small incidents weren't uncommon for him. But after continuous complaints of pain in his arm and further studies he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma bone cancer in late October 2015.
Several rounds of chemo later, the cancer does not seem to be diminishing. As much as his parents and doctor have tried to avoid resorting to arm amputation, it has become clear that it is very necessary in order to avoid the spread of the cancer. This surgery is scheduled for Thursday, February 11th.
In the meantime, recent scans have revealed a concern of possible osteosarcoma on his leg. Family is awaiting the biopsy results to confirm or deny this. Once results from this biopsy are in, a plan for further action will be determined by his parents and his medical team.
Kike and family are putting their trust in the Lord through this journey. They know that no matter what comes their way, they are not alone and the Lord is in control of everything. God's love is obvious through the love, help and support they have been receiving from friends, family and complete strangers too. They are humbled by the outpour of support.
Considering that this journey takes so much time and emotion. We are aware that the family's finances have slowly been impacted as dad is self-employed and taking time off for medical visits means no work or income. In the midst of this emotional journey, their home was broken in to while at the hospital. The intruders helped themselves to everything they wanted. Material things do not matter when a child's life is at stake but it sure adds to the emotion stress.
This page is in response to the many who have asked how they can help. Your financial contribution will be used for..... 1. Transportation expenses when visits to specialists outside the county and possibly state is necessary. 2. It will help the family meet their financial obligations while parents are by Kike's side at the hospital and unable to work their normal jobs. 3. Although insurance is covering most of the medical expenses, there will be expenses that will have to be covered by the family.
It is with a humble heart that Kike and his family thank you for caring and loving them. There is power in prayer and your prayers mean so much.
Thank you and God Bless you.
