Kiera is our loving 115 pound healthy 5 year old Akita that we’ve had sense she was 8 weeks old. We take the absolute best care of our girl and love her more than anything. Every choice we’ve made has always revolved around her well-being. She is my Soul Dog and I would do anything for her health & happiness. Anyone that knows us knows she is our child.
Unfortunately accidents happen and due to her breed and size she has torn her right ACL and to be able to have the best quality of life she will need surgery, which is scheduled to happen 7/13/23.
3.5 years ago she tore her left ACL and it cost us around $10k, it was definitely hard to pay for all that but we managed and she healed wonderfully. After that we learned the importance of pet insurance and got it.
Times are a lot different and more difficult now, we recently had unexpected home/roof damage that was not cheap… and so far we’ve spent $2500 on exams and medications, and we are quoted $7351 for her surgery.
As for the pet insurance we do have it but it’s a very grey area because it may be considered a pre-existing condition but we’re working with the insurance to try to get an answer, either way we will still be paying a few thousand.
I was hesitate to make a gofudnme but after some convincing from family and friends and believing in the power of the internet. Iv donated to so many GoFundMe’s and am always there to help others so I know there’s lots of good people out there!
Kiera is such a special dog, she’s such a sweetheart and everyone loves her… shes a gentle giant who we bring around to cheer everyone up including to the nursing homes and schools. She makes so many people happy and I personally don’t know where I would be in life without her.
If you’re able to donate we would be so incredibly thankful for your generosity, any amount will really make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read kieras story, and please do your research on dog CCL (ACL) tears and the general importance and pet insurance.
