Kiera's Cancer Battle

Donation protected
Kiera Sheedy Camron died peacefully at Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House on September 2, 2022 in the presence of her family. She was born in Pensacola, Florida, was adopted by Wende and Brian Sheedy, and raised in Tallahassee.

She attended Trinity Catholic School and Maclay School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She received a Bachelor of Arts (History) from Wesleyan College (summa cum laude) and was elected to Phi Beta Pi Honor Society and was a President’s. Scholar. She was a member of the College Choir and the Washboard Band.

Following graduation, she served in an adoption agency in Orlando as a member of Catholic Volunteers in Florida. She returned to Tallahassee as the first Executive Director of Open Door Women’s Clinic. After marriage to Reed Camron in August 2000 and the subsequent birth of her first child, she became a teacher with the Sacred Heart Home Educators. She served as the SHHE president and was an active homeschooler until her nearly four-year struggle with cancer precluded further teaching

She was an adventurous child and pursued equestrian activities for many years with her late maternal grandfather, Richard H. Barrows, who was a member of the U.S. Horse Cavalry Association. She explored numerous regional waters kayaking with her father. She enjoyed the many annual family reunions at St. George Island with out-of-town uncles, aunts, and cousins. From an early age, she revealed organizational and planning skills of a high level. She was a faithful Catholic woman who with her husband's help aspired to educate and form children with values and skills for service to God and others.

Kiera was the youngest member of the Tallahassee-Sligo Sister City delegation as a teen. She participated in a group of fellow Good Shepherd parishioners who visited the Catholic Integrated Community in Munich and Rome. Her collegiate study abroad program took her to the University College Galway for studies in Irish history and culture. Newly married, she visited Ireland with family and saw the small dairy farm where her great-great-grandfather Sheedy and family lived before immigrating to Pennsylvania.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Reed Camron, and her children John Paul, Meredith, David, Leah, and James; her parents, Dr. J. Brian and Wende Sheedy; her brother, Michael Sheedy (Dana), and nephew Cullen Sheedy. She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Richard H. and Virginia Barrows, and her paternal grandparents, J. Paul and Marie Sheedy.

The family will host a visitation on Thursday, September 8, from 6 to 8 PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 4665 Thomasville Rd., with a Rosary at 7:30. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, September 9 at 11 AM at Good Shepherd. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Open Door Women's Clinic.
Susie Mozolic of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements. (www.bevisfh.com [phone redacted])

August 2022

The Camron family is overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of love and support that they've received.

Kiera and her family have made the decision together to move from the hospital to hospice.

At this time the family asks for continued prayers and privacy. They appreciate everyone's understanding that only the immediate family will be at the hospice with Kiera.

February 2022

Our sweet sister in Christ, Kiera Camron, is facing a difficult stage 4 cancer diagnosis after almost two years of remission from breast cancer. Kiera has five children. Her youngest is still in preschool.

Her husband, Reed, has been traveling out of town for work but is very much needed at home to care for his wife and family and the everyday needs of the children and household. We want to take the difficult financial burden off of the family so that they can focus on what matters most. We are humbly asking for your financial support to help in this season.

Kiera and Reed are long-time parishioners at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Kiera is the president of the Sacred Heart Home Educators and the former director of Open Door Women’s Clinic. She is a graduate of Maclay High School and Wesleyan College.

Please feel free to share this with your friends and family and others who may desire to bless this precious family. All donations are transferred from GoFundMe directly to the Camron family.
