Send Kien to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago

Donation protected
My name is Kien Truong and I have the honor of being an elected delegate to the 2024 Democratic National Convention, representing Democrats from Oregon Congressional District 3. Held in Chicago, the convention will begin on Monday, August 19, 2024 and conclude on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

While I'm incredibly excited and grateful for this opportunity, all delegates are responsible for paying all of their own expenses to travel to the national convention. I'm raising funds to help cover my airfare, hotel, meals, and other fees and expenses related to the convention. Your generosity and consideration are sincerely appreciated.

About Me

Born and raised in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, I immigrated to the United States in 2014 at the age of 17. I have resided in Southeast Portland since August 2014 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in November 2021. For the past 10 years, I have established a track record of active involvement within our party, public service and community engagement.

• As Young Democrats of Oregon Caucus Chair, I have worked to elevate the voices of young Democrats within the party, recruit and support the election of young Democratic candidates, register young voters as Democrats, and strengthen relationships between caucus members and Democratic elected officials.

• As Portland Community College Board Director and former PCC Student Trustee, I have advocated for holistic policies addressing housing insecurity, transportation access, rising cost of childcare and textbooks, and other barriers to student success. Most recently, I successfully led an effort to update PCC’s investment policies that will result in the divestment from fossil fuel companies and disclosure of college’s investments annually.

• As Chief of Staff to State Senator Kayse Jama, I have been working on labor, housing and immigration policies. From the historic housing packages that included hundreds of millions to tenants in need, to the comprehensive $18 million funding package to welcome 1,200 Afghan families to Oregon, to the translation of Oregon’s Voters’ Pamphlet into top 10 most spoken languages, I am grateful to play a small role. In 2021, I was proudly part of an effort that unionized Oregon’s legislative staff, making Oregon the first state to do so.

Previously, I served as Multnomah County Community Involvement Committee Co-Chair, Portland Police Bureau AAPI Advisory Council Member, PPS GEAR UP College Advocate Mentor and Lutheran Community Services NW School Assistant for refugee newcomers.

What is the Democratic National Convention?

Every 4 years, each of the 57 State Democratic Parties crafts their Delegate Selection Plan for the Democratic National Convention. Oregon Democrats are elected to represent Oregon at the Democratic National Convention, where our Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees are chosen, and where we approve the national Democratic Party Platform. It's important to have voices representing all of our diverse communities in Oregon.
