1st Grade trip to the Safari Park

After a month-long exploration of the Rainforest and African Savanna animals, my colleague Jennifer Valenzuela and I would like to take our students to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. We are excited to give our kinders and first graders the opportunity to gain a real-life experience and see the animals and habitats we have been studying up close and live.

Due to the timing of our field trip (March 18) and distance to the park from Linda Vista, there is a cost that our students cannot afford. The cost includes chartering a bus, admission to the park, and a ride on the Africa Tram which takes them around an enclosure that replicates the African Savanna.

Jennifer and I did not have the chance to take our students on a field trip last year, and it would mean so much to us and our students to have this opportunity that they may not get otherwise. We work in a Title I school, where students are provided with breakfast and lunch free of charge. Many families cannot afford the $15.00 fee, and we would not want any student to feel excluded because they cannot afford it.

Thank you so much for your generosity and for providing our little ones the chance to make authentic connections to their learning!

Much appreciation,
Lauren Brill, K/1 teacher
