Next month, I will be opening Pure Heart Muay Thai in El Cajon, California, in a low-income neighborhood with limited nurturing places for children. I want to make our Juniors Muay Thai program the priority of the gym and make Pure Heart Muay Thai the go-to place in the neighborhood for kids.
Today, November 7, 2019, is my 40th birthday, and what I would ask for is help in making our Juniors Muay Thai program special. I want every kid that walks into the gym to feel comfortable and to see plenty of clean, new equipment so they understand they are important to us.
My first and second gyms had no kids' programs, and my third gym treated the kids program as an afterthought. This is wrong. But fortunately, the Muay Thai scene in the US has made enormous strides to build kids Muay Thai through the efforts of the United States Muay Thai Federation (USMF) and Youth Development League (YDL). Things are moving so fast now that I believe gyms who do not get on board right now will lose both relevance and competitiveness in a few years.
I want to do things the right way from the start. And, I want to be clear in what I am asking for—help. I am not trying to fund the entire kids' program through GoFundMe. I have other resources. I have a great location, the best kids instructor I’ve ever worked with in Jonas Carrera, and my own money.
But, if I have ever helped you, and you would like to return the favor, or if you feel that creating a nurturing place for children in a low-income neighborhood is the right thing to do, then I would wholeheartedly appreciate your help. I’m not too vain to ask for help, and I’m not too naive to believe in “self-made.” Everyone has help, especially in martial arts. This is a special birthday to me for a number of reasons, and I am incredibly grateful for all of the love and support I have received thus far. You can trust your contribution will make a true impact on the El Cajon community.
Below are two resources to give you a better idea of what you’re contributing to. The first is a partial list of the things we will be using the GoFundMe funds to purchase, and the second is a PowerPoint outlining the three-year vision for the gym.
Every dollar raised from the GoFundMe will be used to fund common assets and costs for the kids' pgroam. I will NOT be using any money raised to buy inventory for re-sale. That I will buy myself. The GoFundMe will run today, Thursday, November 7, 2019, only. When we have finished investing the funds raised, I will provide a public spending report showing exactly how the funds were used, so you can see what you helped build.
