Kids deserve a nice Classroom Environment
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sophia Phillips, and I am fundraising to raise money to improve the classroom environment for my 4th-grade class. I retired several years ago and started substitute teaching to fill a void in our schools left by COVID and the inability to find teachers to serve our schools' needs. I gravitated to teaching at schools where children come from the neediest sector of our society and have limited resources. This eye-opening experience has taught me how great the need to help our children is.
The conditions in the school reflect the neglect and lack of funding these schools receive. I reinvest the money I receive from teaching into buying food since some of my students come to school hungry. Most of my students are well below grade level, so I purchase supplemental materials to help fill the gap in learning these children suffered due to COVID. The school copiers are often broken, so I have purchased three printers (two at home and one in my class) to print the lesson worksheets the students need.
The classroom environment is appalling. Six weeks ago, we had heavy rainfall, and part of the ceiling collapsed. It is still not repaired. Chairs and desks have collapsed while students are sitting in them.
Studies have shown that several factors affect learning ability, including seating, light, noise, and color. Students who study in a positive learning environment are more motivated and engaged and have a higher overall learning ability.
The money I am trying to raise will go directly back into the classroom to purchase the proper equipment these students desperately need.
Your help is needed. Please donate whatever you can and direct your friends and colleagues to my page.
Thanks for your help.
