We are a group of friends in 6th grade in Needham, Ma.
Watching the news, listening to our parents, hearing the stories, seeing the photos, viewing the reels, snaps, videos, posts and stories of other 6th graders, other children, other parents and families fighting for their lives. But what can we do? We are only 6th graders.
We are a group of friends in 6th grade, and we can help. We can do something.
We are asking our moms or dads, grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers, and coaches to skip their coffee for a day. One day!
Today-skip the store-bought coffee, no stops at Starbucks, no Dunkin, no local coffee shop and instead donate that tiny amount to help the kids in Ukraine.

Skip the coffee, Save a life.

From the parents:
We are hoping to raise money to help those in Ukraine. Our children are watching and wanting to help, and we want to encourage and support them. The kids are coming up with many ideas, including this GoFundMe page, a Youtube channel, a new TikTok, a new Fortnite dance, a middle school charity tournament with pledges, and so much more. Stay tuned to see what develops; they are working hard.
In the meantime- this first stage- our GFM page is ready for donations!
All money raised will be donated to the IRC- International Rescue Committee.
From the IRC:
The Ukraine-Russia crisis: What is happening?
Civilians have been killed, and people are fleeing their homes to seek safety.
On February 24, Russia deployed its military into Ukraine, a neighboring country in Eastern Europe. Bombs and shelling have continued to escalate as people flee their homes and seek safety.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is calling for an immediate ceasefire to avert what could become the worst humanitarian crisis Europe has seen in decades.
Refugees are at risk:
Many Ukrainians are being forced to flee, both within the country and across borders. Over 160,000 people are reported to have been displaced internally within Ukraine since February 24 and over 422,000 have been forced to flee across borders into neighboring Moldova, Poland and other European nations. The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has warned that the Russian invasion could displace up to 5 million Ukrainians.
Neighboring states are preparing to provide support to the arriving refugees. Poland, for instance, has estimated that it could receive up to 1 million refugees forced to flee Ukraine.
The situation for those who remain inside Ukraine is also precarious.
“We’re extremely concerned about the rising humanitarian needs in the country. Thousands of people who have fled their homes are currently without basic necessities including shelter and food,” said IRC’s senior director of emergencies Lani Fortier.
