Kidney for Kai!

Look at this adorable kid! Kai is a primordial dwarf with MOPD type II.  Which are fancy words to say that he is very little and his head is smaller than it should be.  Its funny how his big personality fits inside such a little body.  He is amazing and has defied great odds. He's had a lot of health problems from the start.  In fact when he was born the doctors mistakenly told me he wouldn't survive the next few days.  But, he did and now my little man is 9 years old.  He loves to sing and play.  He is constantly listening to music and sings along. He will show off his singing talent to anyone who will listen.  In fact he loves an audience.  I have loved every minute of his life, even the stressful ones.  But  now he is in the biggest fight for his life as his kidneys have failed and he is in stage 5 kidney failure.  We have a great team at Primary Children's Hospital, but we are struggling with the medical bills and now my insurance won't approve the facility to do the transplant.  We are going to start dialysis for Kai which will wear down his little body more quickly and be that much harder for his recovery if we ever find a match for transplant.  I have a great job that is very helpful when I need to take off work to do doctor appointments for Kai.  However, the more work I miss the more money we lose and the medical bills get harder to maintain.  I have struggled with the idea of doing a fundraiser for Kai because I know there are a lot of situations like mine and a lot of people that have hard times.  But we, as a family, have come to the point where we can't do this alone.   We need help covering the medical bills, (past, present and future), the travel to the many appointments, the possiblility of having to go out of state if my insurance won't cover this hospital, and the needs of my family as I miss more work to care for Kai.  You might ask why we've set a goal so high.  The answer is: right now it looks as though my insurance isn't going to cover a transplant in the state where I live.  And the hospital won't be able to authorize the surgery unless I can pay for half of the total procedure and hospital stay upfront.  Average cost for a normal pediatric kidney transplant is $262,000.  The sad thing is that Kai's transplant team found a living donor that matched and we were preparing for surgery when we found out that the insurances wouldn't pre authorize this.  Sadly, we lost that opportunity. Parents everywhere understand the need to do whatever it takes to help our children.  Stress and anxiety of having a sick child and stress and anxiety for the healthy ones too.  There are not words to express how much it would mean to me and my family if you donate in our time of need.  If you want more info on Kai's situation and life please feel free to reach out to me.  I love talking about my kids.  Thank you!
