As I sit down to write my story, I feel a mix of emotions. My name is Rachael Musekiwa, and I'm a 32-year-old single mother of two beautiful girls from Zimbabwe. I've been living with kidney failure, and I'm reaching out for help.
It all started in mid-2023 while I was living in China. I was feeling sickly and weak almost every day, but I thought it would pass with some over-the-counter medication. However, my condition worsened, and I experienced fatigue, vomiting, weight loss, bad skin, hair loss, and depression. In April 2024, I decided to see a doctor, and on May 1st, 2024, I was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure (stage 5).
I was admitted to the hospital and started dialysis. Despite the challenges, I'm grateful for the support of my friends and family. When I returned to Zimbabwe, I was admitted to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where I've been receiving treatment since June 2024. However, I'm only able to afford dialysis twice a week, which is not enough according to my doctors.
As a mother, my greatest wish is to see my kids grow, finish school, work, get married, and live happy lives. I'm hoping to get help financially to undergo a kidney transplant, which could give me a second chance at life. I'm also seeking emotional support to cope with the challenges I'm facing.
I'm sharing my story in the hope that it will inspire others to help me. I'm not just asking for financial assistance but also emotional support. Together, we can make a difference.
"The cost of dialysis at a private hospital is around $100 USD per session, which is unaffordable for me. Furthermore, I also have to purchase consumables for dialysis at the public hospital about 100usd including transportation making it even more challenging for me to manage my treatment costs."
For transplant the cost is high.
