CALL TO ACTION
Brian Male is a 25-year-old suffering from double kidney (renal) failure. His acute condition has progressed to dialysis-dependent end-stage renal disease with his kidney's functioning at a rate of only 5%. He is currently an in-patient on dialysis in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) receiving 3 dialysis treatments per week at $200 USD per treatment (approximately, 760 000 UgShs). Brian urgently needs a kidney transplant to be performed in India within a month at an estimated $42, 000 USD/ $58,000 CAD (160, 000, 000 UG.shs).
This is an appeal to the International-Ugandan community and their friends to help raise the necessary money to fund Brian's kidney transplant surgery and get him back to full health and quality of life.
With GOD all things are possible! - Mathew 19:26
****UPDATE**** 2021-02-03 - BRIAN HAS UNDERGONE THE KIDNEY TRANSPLANT SURGERY AND ALL INDICATIONS ARE HE IS ACCEPTING THE TRANSPLANTED KIDNEY. THE DONOR IS ALSO RECOVERYING WELL. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
About Brian:
Brian is the oldest of four boys. He is ambitious and mature. He assumed many of the responsibilities of caring for his siblings and mother, Gertrude, after the untimely death of his father at the age of 14 years old (2008). Brian helped his widowed mother to run the small stationery shop that his father left behind and taught himself how to breed dogs to supplement the family income.
Last year, Brian journeyed to Umalqueen, UAE in search of an opportunity that would enable him to help pay for his siblings' post-secondary education. He worked diligently as a construction worker, a trade for which he had no previous experience. He expected to complete his time in UAE in August of this year; however, a sudden onset of symptoms, which started with constant headaches, led him to be admitted to the hospital where it was found that his blood pressure was alarmingly high. Upon further testing and evaluation, it was discovered that both his kidneys were in acute condition.
Since being admitted to the hospital, Brian's condition has been deteriorating. His current medical condition requires him to have a kidney transplant immediately but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he is under strict travel restrictions that require special considerations and added costs. He is currently on dialysis three times a week at a cost of $200 USD per treatment, which translates to $600 USD weekly. More than $6000 USD (24,000,000M Ug.shs) has already been paid using the remainder of his temporary worker insurance and money mobilized locally. Brian will remain on dialysis until he gets a kidney transplant at a cost of $42,000 USD / $58,000 CAD.
Kidney Donor:
Half of the battle has been won as a member of Brian's family has been positively matched and is willing and able to donate a kidney in order to save Brian's life.
Local Campaign:
His family, friends, and church have created a plan to mobilize efforts locally. They are currently in the process of launching a concurrent campaign within his community. However, given the current economic climate, Brian's mother and his local community need help from us - the diasporic International Ugandan community and our friends - to meet the large, time-limited objective of raising $42, 000 USD / $58, 000 CAD.
Updates will be provided here on funds being raised in Uganda so that we may have an accurate picture of how much funds are needed to meet the $42, 000 USD / $58, 000 CAD objective.
So far, local efforts include the following:
1. Family members coordinated by Mukyala Busulaw
2. Church from Parish Level to Top Namirembe Diocese
3. Friends, Politicians, Business community, Kabowa Community, Media
