Kidney Transplant Donor and Receiptant

Hi, my name is Devone. I am raising money for my husband and his donor Mark. Theo has been on the transplant list for the past four years.

In November 2020 Theo contracted Covid-19, which caused Theo's kidneys to fail and shut down. He was hospitalized and in the ICU for almost a week. When he was finally discharged, he was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure. He would have to begin dialysis because his kidneys no longer functioned properly.

At the end of 2021, he had begun the requirements to be eligible for the transplant list in Connecticut. He met those requirements and was finally on the kidney transplant list.

However, In February 2022 he was diagnosed with cancer. Theo had to undergo 5 days of radiation,1 day of chemo, and 3 days of dialysis for 6 painful weeks. At this time, he was no longer eligible for a transplant.

As he recovered from cancer, He met up with his longtime childhood friend Mark. Theo explained to Mark that he was looking for family or friends who would be willing to get tested as a potential donor. He immediately wanted to help my husband.

He called Hartford Hospital's transplant unit to get information about becoming a living donor. Within a matter of weeks, Mark was tested, and he was excited because he was Theo's match.

Unfortunately, in January 2023, Theo broke his femur and was again not eligible for a kidney transplant. It took a year for my husband to recover from the accident, but Mark never gave up and still wanted to donate his kidney to Theo.

In February of this year, Theo became eligible for a kidney transplant. His friend Mark also has stayed with him through the trials and medical issues cheering him on!

In April this year, Theo and Mark will undergo surgery.

I am raising this money to help Mark because he is a small business owner. He will potentially be out of work for 2-3 weeks. These funds will help with bills, food, gas, and other expenditures.

I am also raising money for medical transportation and medical-related expenses.
