Hi, my name is Laura Villegas and I’m raising money for my family and I who were displaced because of the San Diego flood on January 22, 2024.

Below is a YouTube Video of an interview my boyfriend and I were in while staying at Lincoln High School:
My brother, dad and boyfriend shoveled our street that was full with mud because the city took about two weeks to come and help clear the mud.

We lost all of our belongings including our beds, furniture, and clothing.

and salvaged our cars…

In addition, my dad lost most of his medication. As well as things he needs like his blood pressure monitor, glucose monitor, his first aid kit and other much needed medical items.

He currently receives dyalisis three times a week and has special dietary needs that are extremely hard to follow in our situation.

It has not been easy. (Thanks for taking the time to read about our personal story…)

Two years ago, December 23, 2022, my dad was admitted to ER and was in ICU. (This happened to fall on my birthday, I was devastated.) He was diagnosed with end stage renal disease.
My dad was diagnosed with hypercalcemia, renal desease, anemia, high blood pressure, and needed blood transfusion. He received chest X-rays, had liquid in his heart, and needed a catheter among other things.
Two years prior to this, also on December, my older brother passed away from Covid on December 17, 2020. He was a Veteran and died at the young age of 32.

My dad also tested positive for Covid and was in and out of the hospital.

He kept getting discharged and then admitted the next day…

After months of intense trauma and sleepless nights, I had a major breakdown and was admitted to a mental health hospital to be treated for my major depression…
I’ve come a long way but I continue to struggle, not only with my mental health but also financially, trying to cover for all of the expenses that keep piling up.
(The day my dad was discharged from the intensive care unit, we discovered that his personal bag of belongings had been stolen from his room. His duffel bag included his wallet, shoes and clothes. We filed a police report but nothing was solved. Instead of just worrying about his health, he had to apply for his passport, Drivers license and cancel his bank account.)
Now, after the flood, it’s like starting all over again. Relieving past traumas and trying to keep my spirits up.
It would mean the world to us if you could help pass this message on or donate even a few dollars for the expenses that keep piling up.
We are also saving money for the possibility of a kidney transplant. My dad has received education pre kidney transplant but there are a lot of preparations that have to happen before, including finding a matching donor. Lots of doctor appointments to ensure that he is ready. He is also diabetic so there’s also a lot of following up with that. Due to our current situation of staying at a hotel with no stove it’s been hard to follow the restricted diet and his health is declining which could possibly make him ineligible for a kidney transplant.
At the moment we are still trying to find an apartment.
Thank you for taking the time to read. ♥️ We hope that you will follow our journey and help us in any way you can.
