Kidney Journey continued....

For those who don't know me, hi! My name is Xica, formally known as Danielle's daughter. I have been running this GoFundMe account for my mother since 2022, and here we are in 2025, still going. For those just joining us on this journey, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 5 renal failure in 2018 and has been on dialysis since 2019 when she was ready for a transplant, but COVID-19 hit. The transplant unit was virtually shut down for 2 years. When it started back in 2022, I was the first to offer my kidney. The transplant unit took 9 days to test me. We were at the crossmatch lab when we got a call from the hospital saying they found blood in my urine, so wouldn’t be a good match. They then told her to get ready because she would receive a deceased donor kidney. Which, news flash, does not exist. Nevertheless, my mother, a generous family, friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry put together a beautiful benefit concert, out of which we inspired 2 generous people to become live donors and 91 others to register with the transplant unit to become deceased donors. It took nearly 4 months to work up the first donor, who discovered she had early breast cancer and was able to deal with it then. But then it took another 4 months to work up the other donor who was waiting in the wings. This is where we left you all last season...

Since then, many, many delays later, she was ready to get the transplant again. However, because she had been on dialysis for a prolonged period, she was told that she had to get double heart valve surgery. Sigh, so close. While dialysis has been saving her life for the past 7 years, it has taken a toll on her body and resulted in the calcification of her heart valves and her need for this surgery, which she is still recovering from. Waiting for the next steps for this to finally be over.

It has been a difficult few years for my mother and our family as she has had to deal with the deaths of both of her parents in addition to everything else.

She has yet another generous live donor waiting, but having to pay out-of-pocket, these tests cost thousands. We would appreciate your help once again. My mother still has a lot to offer this country and the world, and I wouldn't want to lose her from this disease.
