This GoFundMe page has been launched for Mike Woods, the proud father of two daughters, and a loving son, brother, and uncle, who is in desperate need of a kidney. His family has worked together to launch this campaign and kidneyformike.com, a website designed to try and find a kidney donor for Mike.
The Goal of This Campaign
The goal/objective of this campaign is to raise money that will solely be used to spread awareness of Mike’s situation (via digital advertising and direct outreach) in hopes of finding a kidney donor that can save Mike's life. The advertising campaigns and outreach are being built pro-bono by a certified digital marketing agency. All it takes is reaching the right person that is willing to donate a kidney in order to save Mike’s life. Help us help Mike by donating today.
Mike's Situation
Mike is currently in the end-stage of renal (kidney) failure due to Immunoglobulin A Nephropathy (“IgA”). IgAN is a condition that Mike has had for many years that damages the inside of his kidneys (the glomeruli) and causes kidney disease. Because of this condition, Mike has been battling kidney failure for nearly 20 years. In May 2018 Mike was placed on Dialysis because his kidney function was below 10%. Mike travels to Dialysis three days a week for several hours per day to clean and flush his blood in place of what his kidney would/should do. Dialysis is quite intrusive, leaving Mike often feeling weak and fatigued.
Mike's only chance of survival is to find a kidney donor, but finding a kidney for a transplant is not easy. Just ask the 100,000+ people on the waiting list for a deceased donor kidney like Mike is. Time is not on Mike’s side. Some wait for years and many die while waiting. The average wait time is five years or more for a kidney from a deceased donor. However, the other option is receiving a kidney from a living donor. The sooner we can raise awareness for Mike and his situation, the sooner we may be able to reach the individual that will be willing to donate a kidney and save Mike's life.
