My brother in-law, Mark Zussman, needs our help, medically and financially. Mark has Type 2 Diabetes that is inherited and is need of a kidney transplant. He is an incredibly dedicated husband, and father and currently undergoes dialysis 3 times each week, all while continuing to work full-time to support his family. He has missed celebrating special anniversaries, birthdays and other occasions because of dialysis. Without undergoing dialysis treatment while waiting for a kidney donation, Mark’s condition would deteriorate completely.
My sister Adina has traveled with Mark to several hospitals and through many tests to get Mark on the transplant list. They have been advised that finding a living donor would be his best option for a healthy kidney. They have asked everyone they know. For one reason or another, their kidney will not work for Mark.
The waitlist is 5-10years. The longer he is on dialysis, the harder it will be to transplant. You only need 1 healthy kidney to live. If you would consider being a donor, a simple blood test would tell if you are a match for Mark. The surgery for the donor is a simple procedure with a short hospital stay. Adina and Mark would be happy to answer any questions and give you the living donor number at the hospital to speak with someone for more details.
It is very important to Mark and Adina for you to know they are usually very private people and don’t ask for help. However, the stress of looking for a kidney donor as well as mounting medical bills are taking a toll. They are also in financial need to help with the medical bills. Yes, they have insurance but not everything is covered.
As some of you know, Adina has also faced and survived life-threatening illnesses. These dangerous illnesses have taken a toll on their children and family as a whole, emotionally and financially.
When I spoke to Adina about setting up this page, she told me it is important to her that everyone know, “When Mark and I got married over 30 years ago, we vowed to be by each other’s side forever. Please help us have our forever.”
