Kylie Boardman is 20 years old, a Central Maine Community College student-athlete (Women’s Ice Hockey), and a preschool classroom teacher working toward her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Her kidney journey began before she was born. Prenatal testing originally showed no kidney development and no chance of survival outside the womb. Later testing revealed some development, but she was still given less than a 1% chance of survival at birth. With an incredible team of specialized doctors and nurses, she arrived as a seemingly healthy baby—then imaging confirmed she had Solitary Dysplastic Kidney disease, meaning she had only one kidney that would never function at full capacity.
Thanks to expert care from the Maine Medical Center nephrology team—and a lot of determination—she grew up as a normal kid and a three-sport athlete at Gardiner Area High School. We always knew there would come a day when her kidney function would decline and she would need a transplant to live a full life. That day is here, and she is currently working toward a kidney transplant through Maine Medical Center.
We’re raising funds to help with transplant-related expenses that can add up quickly—travel to appointments, lodging, time off work for caregivers, medication costs, and other essential needs before and after surgery.
If you’re able to donate, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you can’t donate right now, sharing this fundraiser means just as much.
